L ‘Amour fouetté translates as The Love of the Whip. Gaston Vincennes was the pseudonym of Gaston Bonhomme and appeared on a few volumes of French erotica early in the 20th century.
Charles Avalanche probably wasn’t the artist’s birth name either but I’ve been able to learn nothing.

France was home to the publishing of kinky erotica long before England or America. Pity very little of it has been translated into English.

Great blog. Congratulations
Hi John,
You missed the accent on “fouetté”, so the meaning is different, it gives “Love whipped” and not “the love of the whip”. Cupid is the symbol of love, that’s why he is whipped.
I’ve corrected my mistake.
Thanks for pointing that out and the comment on cupid.
