It's my Godfather, my Bible, my Empire Strikes Back. I believe every little thing I've ever felt and experienced as a fetishist is there in a way I can relate to. And a really well built piece of literature too. That said, Crepax version is very loosely based on the Masoch novel. But then, that's the way Crepax would do anything. He did the same with Stoker's Dracula. And the result is really fine, if you don't expect it to be a comic-book faithful rendition of a literary work. To gilesenglish - I'm not sure Leopold Sacher-Masoch was an arse. A very interesting charcahter himself, as far as I can tell from Bernard Michel's biography. But from skimming I was surprised how many of the traditional elements associated with female domination were present in the novel. There's a fairly faithful movie adaptation, done in Holland but with an English language option. I never could manage to read it.
